Dear friends, fellow artists, collaborators and supporters,
We hope this message finds you safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.
We wanted to update you on how Rising Sun Performance Company has been affected by the Covid-19 health crisis and how we plan on moving forward together. Like each of you, we are all taking things day by day, and making long term assessments for our artists and upcoming season.
Since March 15th, we have postponed rehearsals and productions, yet even as we take these painful but necessary steps to safeguard our community of artists and our city, we are working hard from our homes individually and together online.
Not surprisingly, we have rescheduled “Shhh….It’s a Speakeasy” which is now scheduled for July 18th, 2020. We will continue to monitor the situation, and follow protocols as directed by CDC and local Government to ensure that we can move forward with this new date.
We were slated for production in several festivals this summer, and currently await news if those festivals will move forward as planned, be cancelled or postponed.
We are delaying the announcement of our 8 pipeline plays and resident playwrights until we know more about our 2020-2021 performance schedule, as there are still many pending factors into the new schedule. We can not wait to share these works with you.
In the meantime, we are excited that to share with you our newest ensemble members later this week after our February open call.
Additionally, we turned our focus inwards to help our family of artists stay connected, continue to create, and prepare for when we are ready to resume in person. We are having virtual weekly company meetings, a playwright working group, Saturday morning play readings and wellness programs for our ensemble.
Currently, we are exploring ways to bring you access to our work virtually, including:
· Live updates with RSPC artists.
· Clips from your favorite past RSPC works
· Peeks inside the (virtual) rooms where we are developing new plays
· Sharing our work from our Resident Playwrights with our Members online
Send us an email if there are things that you would be interested or ideas for new ways to connect with us during this time. We’d love to hear from you!
We look forward to reuniting with our artists and our audiences in person as soon it’s safe to do so; as well as bringing forth the many amazing pieces of work we have planned to share with you.
In the meantime, we at Rising Sun continue to find ways to stay connected, to bring some rays of light to you online, and to connect our artists and audiences with each other in new and daring ways.
Wishing you love, health and safety for you and yours during this time,
Akia, Founding Artistic Director
With Anna, Rick & William- The RSPC staff
We are tremendously grateful to have such an amazing group of supporters and audience members, and your donations have been our lifeline. We know its a difficult time for everyone.
Your generosity and support now means more than it ever has.
We hope this message finds you safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.
