Rising Sun Performance Company is inviting Theatre Artists of all disciplines to apply to our New Work Incubator & Residency Program this season!
 

We welcome Playwrights, Directors, Lyricist/Composers, Choreographers, Theatre Companies and Devised/Site Specific Creators

Laboratorium is a part of Rising Sun Performance Company’s Theatre Artist Retreat & Residency in Nolan Park on Governors Island May thru August 2019
 
Immersed in the creative and regenerative environment of Governors Island, diverse artists share a beautiful, inspiring and tranquil space to write, rehearse, explore and create in a focused & uninterrupted way just 8 minutes away from Manhattan. 
 
Laboratorium is a new works incubator culminating with public presentations in a non-traditional environment that allow audiences & artists to connect informally and socially while supporting new work. The Lab’s primary focus is allowing artists to focus on the development of their projects, without the pressure of a full production. This Lab is a weekly program with presentations open to the public. These presentations can be Readings, Fully or Partially Staged Excerpts and Devised/Site Specific Pieces that are 20-60 Minutes in length.
 
Each week a different project will be invited to join us on the Island for development and presentation. Monday through Friday will be 30-35 hours of developmental rehearsals, meetings, script readings and internal workshops, followed by 4-6 Public Presentations on Saturday & Sundays.
 
Selected works will include Scripted, Musical Scores, Devised/Non -Scripted works and movement based pieces. Projects can be in various stage of development, Concept, Devised/Site Specific, Partially written or fully written.
 
Important Dates:
Deadline for Applications are April 30th 
Projects invites/notifications will begin April 15th and continue on a rolling basis
Contribution Payments Due 7 Business Days  after notification has been given
Artist Orientation & Mixer /Meet & Greet Dates will be the first weekend of each month (I.e if you are notified April 15th, payment is due one week later via paypall) 
Representative must attend one session prior to their participation

Laboratorium Residency Program Provides: 
  • Coverage under our Event Liability Insurance
  • One Week of 30 Hours of Dedicated Rehearsal Space (Monday-Friday 10:15 AM-5:15 PM) in a shared house
  • 4-6 Performance Presentations to the public (20-60 Minutes in Length) Saturday & Sunday
  • Inclusion in our Group Audition and access to our casting database
  • Access to our pre-vetted Director Database
  • Access to stock Costume & Props
  • Access to stock set pieces
  • Access to writers room as available during the full season
  • Access to Additional Rehearsal Space as available during full season
  • Administrative support

  • Promotional Support- Dedicated E-blast, Website Page, Facebook Event, Social Media Presence
  • Printed One Page Program for Performances
  • Low cost on site printing capabilities

Participant Requirements:
  • $150 Non Refundable Program Participation Contribution
  • Delivery of 20 to 60 Minutes of prepared performance material suitable for public presentation (can be in any form- On book, Movement, Script in Hand, Partially or fully staged)
  • Attendance at One Artist Orientation prior to assigned week
  • Meeting all required deadlines for promotional content
  • Project lead is responsible for all equity paperwork and regulations (RSP will not submit or sponsor AEA paperwork)
  • Project must have a representative at all performances (non performing/non cast)
  • Adherence to all Governors Island, Laboratorium and Rising Sun Performance Company Rules and Regulations for program, park and building
  • Respectful and Courteous treatment of all artists, cast, participants, park staff, RSP staff, audience, and personnel
  • Signed Agreement & Waiver by ALL Participants in project
  • Credit listing to Rising Sun Performance Company as Development Support for future productions
  • Complete Contact List of all participant in Residency project
  • Meet all required deadlines for promotional materials
  • Participation in promotion of Laboratorium
  • Participation in any scheduled promotional/marketing appearances as available
  • Participation in at least 1 panel discussion or talk back
  • Completion of at least 1 House Manager Shift at a performance other than artists own work
  • Participation/Attendance/Support at EITHER Load in or Load out day

THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES/CHILDREN

Submissions for Plays for Children/ Theatre for Young Audiences for their 2019 season on Governors Island.
 
SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS March 30th 2019
$150 ROYALTY PAYMENT FOR SELECTED WORK

 
Rising Sun Performance Company will be curating and presenting a full season of new work in partnership with Governors Island and NYC Parks Department.  Our House will be being a flourishing Artist Residency acting as a hub for new work development and artistic creation. Allowing Audiences and Creators to Meet, Merge and Share ideas and dialogue.
 
Performances will be held in Colonels Row,  Governors Island, NYC
May through August 2019 (two to three times weekly)
These performances will be presented to the public for Free, (Donations accepted)
 
We are looking ONLY for Plays that fit the needs and requirements for Theatre for Young Audiences/Family Friendly plays.
 
Plays will be vetted by Literary Team and Ensemble Members.
 
Seeking Family Friendly works that meet the following criteria:
 
Material should be intended for and appropriate for young audiences and Family friendly
Play should be adaptable to both inside and outdoors performances   
Cast Age range should be adaptable, understanding our ensemble is 20s-40s
Especially looking for plays with strong female characters
Especially looking for plays with diverse characters in race, gender identity and age
Cast size should be no larger than 4-6  people.
Running time should be 30-50 Minutes in length
No more than 50 pages in length
We are not seeking musicals at this time, but are open to plays with musical elements
 
Plays that do not fit this most of these criteria will not be read

Any other pertinent information (Playwright bio, list of previous productions, etc)

Writers retain full rights and credit for all work produced.
A signed rights agreement granting RSP permission to produce is required for selected work.
A One-time Rights/Royalty Fee of $150 will be given to selected Play/Playwright
