RSP's Manifesto..
- Don’t take yourself too seriously or rather leave your egos at the door
- Each of us comes from different backgrounds, learning, experience and philosophies. All of them are important and add to us as a whole
- Kick ass and take no prisoners, yes that’s right we said it.
- Listening is a highly valued skill
- No one in the production is more important than anyone else. There is of course a “chain of command” but only to ensure organization and efficiency of time.
- No One is too good to sweep and mop the stage
- Our Theatre should be inclusive of everyone involved, our community; Our Ensemble is just as important as the work itself. No one in the production is more important than anyone else.
- Raw Talent is good, natural unearthed talent is a powerful thing
- Respect for each other’s philosophies, theory and ideas
- Rising Sun combines the core philosophy of age old stock theatres and tradition and combines them with a downtown astethic that take risks, and allow people to explore, fall, make mistakes and then pick themselves up and try again.
- Rising Sun does not aim to limit or define itself in any way. RSP focuses on the journey of present, what passions, what voices, what visions and what talents the ensemble chooses to explore should represent where each person is in their development and craft.
- You can’t define the un-definable, don’t try to pigeon hole us please.
- Rising Sun does not have a political or message-driven agenda. - this is not to be said that we do not react to political climate or social themes but its not our sole mission
- Rising Sun is a home for theatrical artists: Rarely does a theatre artist have a home outside of school where they can take risks, create their own performance opportunities and try their hand at new theatrical skills.
- Rising Sun is our family, connections should be made on, off, backstage and outside of the theatre. If we don’t have each other we have nothing. Have each other’s backs. Loyalty goes a long way
- The company, our community is more important than the goal of a single individual
- The process is just as important as the end result
- Theatre artists should learn as much as possible about every aspect of theatre. The more time you spend off stage the more you respect and earn your place on stage.
- Continued learning, growth and experience are valued.
- There's always room for a new idea.
- This isn't a passing thru place, this is home.
- To produce theatre occasionally just for art’s sake. Without agenda, or expected reaction, simply fueled by passion of performing something well.
- Volunteering, being a part of the Indie Theatre community is a VITAL and IMPORTANT part of what we do as a company.
- We aim to serve a diverse group of theatrical artists all of which have varied talents.
- We are a community of artists that care not only for our own career but for each other’s
- Every member must take ownership of the entire production, we are a team, and we do not abandon others to do the dirty work.
- ZIP ZAP ZOP, everyone plays it, whether you get it or not
